NHL Trade Deadline: B’s Make Some Noise

With the trade deadline looming, the Bruins have made some changes with the hope of gearing up for a run at the Stanley Cup. They’ve acquired Steve Montador in exchange for Petteri Nokelainen, and they picked up Mark Recchi (and a 2010 second-round pick) for Martins Karsums and Matt Lashoff.

Early indications are that the B's did alright for themselves.

Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe offers a solid analysis of the trade, noting that the Bruins didn’t have to give up anyone from their current active roster.

Based on the comments to the piece by the OC Register’s Curtis Zupke, Anaheim fans are not happy with trading Montador.

Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune comments on Recchi’s experience, as well as the fact that he’s played for two Stanley Cup champions.

  1. Bruins got a great player in Monty. He was new to our D this year and I really liked his grit and the chemistry he was building with Bret Hedican. One big downside is that he a bit of a hugger when he fights. I can't speak for everyone but most of us are not real happy with this trade or most of the moves made by our new GM over the past week.I really hope he knows what he's doing and can get our team back in contention next year.

  2. Thanks for the added insight Chris. It's always tough losing someone that the fans can rally behind. I definitely feel your pain --- I was a big fan of Sergei Samsonov back in his Bruins days, and it stung when he left the team. That being said, it looks like the B's got themselves a solid player in Monty.
